Greensborough Town Centre was named after the squatter, soldier and mail contractor Edward Green who bought most of the present day township site in 1841.
The Greensborough Town Centre has been servicing its local region and community with their 400 plus businesses for a long time. Greensborough Town centre consists of just over 200 businesses inside the Greensborough Plaza and just under 200 businesses outside the Plaza around the strip area which covers Main Street, Grimshaw Street, Flintoff Street, Haile Street East and Para Road.
The official vision of the new Greensborough Green Edge Project due to commence in late 2007 is “to make Greensborough a people-friendly precinct, a township combing community, commercial and cultural interest with entertainment and leisure, founded on environmentally and economically sustainable principles”
The Greensborough Plaza Management, Greensborough Chamber of Commerce, Banyule City Council, Victoria Police and local community groups work together to improve the centre constantly and to make it a safe and friendly place to visit and enjoy. The two murals in the laneway to the Carter Reserve car park near the swimming pool were commissioned by the Greensborough Chamber of Commerce to improve and add colour and energy to the centre. Graffiti is cleaned off the walls on a regular basis by the Chamber of Commerce to ensure the centre feels and look safe and clean.
