The Greensborough Town Centre has created a fun environment for their customers with comical 3d sculptured murals in a busy laneway. Their colourful murals are being used as an example on how other Australian towns could solve their graffiti problem.

In May 2004 the Chamber developed the first “3D” Mural and in June 2006 completed the second opposite to create a fun Looney Tunes atmosphere. Shoppers and pedestrians in Greensborough’s main shopping and business area have been intrigued - and often bemused - by the colourful work of art on what was once a drab red brick wall with graffiti in the laneway leading from Main Street through to the Carter Reserve car parking areas below the shopping precinct. The Murals depicts graphic and comical illustrations of shop fronts symbolic of Greensborough’s Main Street and shopping scenes.
The murals are the brain child of the Greensborough Chamber of Commence Committee. Noella Jacobs, Centre Manager for the Greensborough Town Centre says “both murals were very cleverly created and painted by artist Peter van Breugel. They represent the Greensborough Shopping and Business strip traders and hopefully bring a smile to some people as they pass. Peter, the artist, lovingly placed some very fun and comical characters of people and animals on the mural using timber panel sculptures, creating a striking 3-D sculpture effect.
The 1st mural depicted a Greengrocer, Butcher, Café, Real Estate Agent, Travel Agent, Pharmacy, Bank and Hotel. The 2nd mural depicts a Music Shop, Printers, Solicitor and Hair Salon. The first mural was so popular that it has attracted sponsorship from local traders such as Plenty Valley Printing, Main Street. Billy Hyde Music, David Stagg & Tonkin, Solicitors and A.N.T. Hair Salon. The laneway created on the mural is dedicated to Tom Vicker who was the first pharmacist in the area. He was in Greensborough for 25 years. He was a member of the Greensborough Chamber of Commerce and his dream was to develop the area behind Main Street into the new Green Edge development
This laneway is now a pleasure to walk down with these colourful murals on both sides. This laneway is the gateway to the future Greensborough Project currently in the process of being finalised by Greensborough & Partners Pty. Ltd.
